I agree that this is an excellent article and am grateful to Pain-Topics.org for their atypical perceptiveness that misunderstanding and deliberate misuse of research in pain related issues is a key factor in what has "gone off the rails" in pain care; one that has a real and daily effect on the suffering of millions of pain patients.

Suicide ideation, attempts, and completed suicides among persons with intractable chronic pain may be a well-kept secret in pain medicine -- one that really needs to be brought out of the closet and examined more carefully. A timely topic. In my pain practice there were numerous deaths from suicide. Eighty percent had depression with suicidal ideation that in most cases was under poor control.
