Both my husband and I suffer from chronic pain; however, I am far more sensitive to opioids than he and can still get help from relatively small doses. He needs stronger medication and until recently, used extended release oxycodone to control his pain. Then the FDA decided we were at high risk if we took this medication as a generic, so removed them all from the market, except the name brand.

I know from first hand experience that it is also the patients responsibility to ASK questions about any medicine that we are not familiar with. We cannot assume that any Dr.or pharmacist will provide us with all we need. This unfortunate death could and should of been advoided.I am an intractable pain patient and find most Dr.s very responsible in this area,this one was not. The womans age

Yes, plenty of blame to go around, but not the patient or patient's friend. The doctor should have known better, and certainly the pharmacist! This very effective and potent drug requires patient education. Shame on this doctor.
